The mapping below is the product of high-resolution photo interpretation of:
- drone images undertaken by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) between the 23rd and the 26th of October 2016;
- images collected by World View between the 7th and the 11th of October 2016, which were made available by Digital Globe, part of the Open Data Program;
- images from the Copernicus program from the European Union, which strives to develop information services based on the analysis of satellite imagery.
Interpretations have been based on a simplified BAR methodology, which standardizes building categorization based on spatial imagery and provides a ranking system for the severity of visible impacts in cases which have experienced natural disasters.
The results from IOM’s photo interpretation project for areas affected by Hurricane Matthew, in the departments of the Grande Anse, Sud, and Nippes are found below:
