IOM is helping combat human trafficking in Haiti

Poverty and economically desperate situations at the Haitian-Dominican border heighten women and youth’s vulnerability to becoming victims of trafficking. Since January 2018, Haitian Border Police identified and referred 120 suspected cases of trafficking in persons.

Vulnerable persons are commonly tricked into thinking they will get employment and a better life and find themselves far from home in situations of modern day slavery instead. It is amongst the most common and violent forms of trafficking IOM staff and partners are working to combat in Haiti and the region.
